Treaty to make Europe work

7.51.53pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Aug 2007

John commented: "There's a lot of bleating going on from the right of politics but not a single good idea coming from that direction. Everyone agrees that a European Union of 27 Member States needs a new arrangement to ensure that it works. It's time to offer constructive ideas to ensure that a workable arrangement is put in place this year. The draft text of the new treaty has much to offer in strengthening the Member States scrutiny of Brussels."

The first draft of a new EU treaty can now be read in French and English.
